Faults and Problems

When a laundry machine breaks it can be a massive inconvenience though often the fault can be something really simple. Finding out about the most common faults could help avoid great expense or at the very least rule out the most obvious things that could go wrong.

Problems could be something very simple like a loose object in the drum of the appliance or a clogged filter. Checking the most common problems first might just save calling out a professional unnecessarily. When checking for faults it is important to turn off the power to the appliance first to avoid any mishaps. Reducing or increasing the load size could also eliminate some issues relating to spinning or lack of.

Hiring a washing machine repair expert is of course recommended if the most obvious checks prove to be fruitless.

COMMON ERRORS & PROBLEMS

Not spinning

A washer-dryer that isn’t spinning correctly could be attributed to a too small or a too heavy load. Adjusting your load size could alleviate this fault. A washer has balance sensors that might detect a small load and cause it to not spin correctly. Similarly too much washing in your machine might mean a machine doesn’t drain correctly and ultimately cause it not to spin. By adding or removing items from a load could rectify this washer fault. Making sure the filter, typically at the front of a machine, isn’t blocked is also a way of checking the cause of not spinning.

Noisy appliance

It is possible that a washer fault could develop when the cycle seems too noisy. Most people know the noise levels of their machine so notice easily when it begins to make a strange noise, shake or rattle. Checking the filters and the drum for anything immediately obvious could eradicate this problem. There could be an object in the drum that has fallen out of a load of washing and removing that could stop the noise happening.

A rumbling noise could signify a washer fault with the bearings on the drum. Checking the filter might again reveal an obvious blockage that could clear the drain pump and do away with the excessive noise arising from this type of fault.

The door won’t open

It is fairly commonplace that no washer will let the door be opened whilst a cycle is underway. However, once a programme has completed the door release should activate. If this doesn’t happen then it could be possible to power off the machine and open the lid. Use the lever inside to release the door and open.

Bad smell

It might seem like an embarrassing problem to have but having a smelly washer is a relatively common fault. Modern liquid detergent and washing at a colder temperature means that bacteria is give the opportunity to breed and then causes the bad smell. Doing a maintenance wash will usually cure any smells leave your washer-dryer in tip top condition.

Stops mid cycle

This type of appliance fault could really be anything and short of eliminating things like a power cut or a break in electrical power then it typically worth hiring a professional to help. There’s a number of washer faults that can be diagnosed and treated by the owner but anything more technical needs the owner’s input.

WASHING MACHINE IS NOT SPINNING

A machine that is not spinning presents a big problem of very wet washing. Whilst washing might be clean if the washer is not spinning then you are likely to be presented with wringing wet loads of washing that would take a mammoth effort to get dry even on a hot day! These days we’re accustomed to doing much bigger loads and as a result we have much more washing to get dry. Despite washing machines having bigger drums than a few years ago there are times when we still expect too much of a washer and this can cause them not to turn.

Overloading your appliance with too much washing is the most common cause of a laundry machine not turning. As each washer is reliant on balance in the drum, as soon as this is compromised you are likely to experience the appliance not spinning or stopping completely. When a machine has a large load or even one that is too light the washer senses it is out of balance and as a result over compensates by stopping working properly. Even if it starts to spin it will not reach top spin speeds if there is a problem detected with the size of the load. Read on to find out how overloading can break your washing machine.

When a washer is not spinning it is nearly always down to user error and redistributing the load or reducing the amount in the machine might resolve the problem. If in doubt it is always better to do a couple of smaller loads rather than one huge load in order to protect your machine. The chances are if you think your appliance is too full then it is and prolonged periods of doing loads that are too heavy won’t serve you well long term.

Checking the filters for blockages could also mean a machine is not turning. This could be accompanied by the machine not draining properly so if you have both problems then a clogged filter could be the culprit.

For a persistent washer that is not turning then calling out an engineer might be the only option. If you’re confident you’ve ruled out the obvious problems and the machine is working fine otherwise then it could be a problem with the motor or pump or another part.

At Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services we are professional repair technicians and would be happy to help with a washer that is not spinning or any other repair. We will attend to your broken appliance in a timely manner and we endeavor  to resolve the problem on our first visit rather than have you wait around. WASHING MACHINE KEEPS DISPLAYING ERROR CODE

Older washing machines never used to be as hi tech as the ones we find today, nor did they have the array of programmes to choose from. It is certainly true that modern washing machines can do much more in terms of the variety of programmes, timer settings and other add ons that people have become accustomed to. With digitial displays on most washers it is simple to select a programme for a load of washing and away you go. When things go wrong it’s typically possible to determine the problem from an error code on the digital display. When a washer is displaying error then it is telling you that something isn’t quite right.

Error codes can usually be translated by knowing what the code means or looking it up in the user manual. The code that is being displayed could range from something very simple that can be easily rectified to something more serious that could require a technician. A washer that displays error codes is trying to communicate and the chances are the machine won’t work until the problem is resolved. Some people aren’t keen on modern washer, preferring that a washer would still work despite a problem but actually it is the machines way of protecting parts and preserving the machine’s longevity.

Common appliance codes could be related to a problem with the door, a water heating sensor, a software or circuit board fault, a motor or pump fault plus much more. Simple things that could have an error code could be the door being left ajar on the machine or the detergent drawer not in situ properly.

To preserve the life of a washer and prevent the appliance from displaying error codes it is worth taking care of it. Using a washer-dryer inappropriately, overloading it or expecting it to deal with oversize item are all likely things to cause problems. Using a washing incorrectly is not normally likely to break it immediately but you could be storing up problems further down the line and let’s face it having a broken washer is very inconvenient. Treating your machine to regular servicing and using a special cleaner to ensure parts don’t get clogged up is usually recommended.

We are experts in appliance repairs and we can tackle all makes and models. We endeavour to attend to you as soon as possible so if you contact us we will try to help.

BEKO WASHING MACHINE ERROR CODES

Like all appliances, Beko washing machines can break down or have a problem. For Beko’s WMA range, there are a number of error codes that can come up. Here is a breakdown of which each of them means if they come up on your digital display:

Error E1

This means that an NTC error has been detected and there could be a problem with the wiring or the thermistor.

Error E2

Your water is not heating up properly, which will probably require the wiring to be checked.

Error E3

Your machine is heating all the time which could be a sign that there is a problem with the control relay for the heater.

Error E4

This is a problem with the filling of the machine. It could fill and empty without operating normally or it could just be that the door is jammed creating the error. There could be an issue with the water valve itself, the PCB (printed circuit board) or the wiring of your washing machine.

Error E5

This can mean a number of things but usually involves the machine not draining properly and taking too long to go through its cycle or not spinning. There could be blockages or problems with the pump/filter or an issue with the control board.

Error E6

There is a fault with the motor which means that your machine doesn’t complete its cycle or will suddenly jump to the spin cycle. It can mean an issue with the motor mechanism or the wiring, as well as the PCB.

Error E7

A problem with the level sensor can mean the washing machine empties near the start or the program won’t even begin. It can be an issue with the level sensor itself or the wiring attached to it.

Error E8

The washing machine is not filling with water and fills and then drains without doing anything. This can be due to a few problems such as the water valve, a problem with the antiflooding mechanism, the wiring or the PCB.

Error E9

There’s an issue with the door lock which could be the lock itself or the electronics operating it such as the PCB.

Error E10

Another problem with the door which could mean it is jammed. This can also be because the lock is broken or there are issues with the electronics.

Error E11

This is a motor error detection and could be a problem with the motor, PCB or the wiring.

Error E17

This happens if your washing machine detects too much foam and is normally the result of using the wrong detergent. You will have to empty the machine and rinse it through several times to clear the problem.

Error E18

This can happen if you overload your Beko washing machine or have an unbalanced load. It usually comes up during the spin cycle – you need to reload your washing and try the spin cycle again.

Spotting any error can be frustrating but should not be handled yourself if it could be a mechanical or electrical fault – that could void your warranty. You need to contact a qualified washing machine engineer to repair your device.

LG WASHING MACHINE ERROR CODES EXPLAINED

There are range of error codes available for LG washing machines which appear on the digital display. These are generally used for the benefit of engineers rather than owners but will give you an idea what the problem is. It’s always important to get a professional for any major repair.

The common LG washing machine fault error codes are:

CL:

The child lock is engaged. If you want to release it, press the temp and eco/rapid button at the same time for about three or four seconds.

OE:

This code means that your washing machine has not been able to drain its water.

This can be for a variety of reasons, most usually because there is a blockage – if you cannot find one then the drain pump may be faulty.

If you have a non-digital display this is shown when the 800, 500 and no spin lights start flashing.

Things to check include:

  • The pump filter isn’t blocked or obstructed.
  • The drain hose isn’t blocked, obstructed or kinked so that water can’t flow.

Other issues can be the drain pump filter, the air chamber and pressure sensor hose and the resistance on the drain pump. Connections can also be another issue, as can the drain pump rotor.

IE:

The washing machine isn’t filling with water in a timely fashion.

For non-digital machines this is shown when the pre- and main lights flash.

Things to check include:

  • The water supply is switched on.
  • There are no blockages in the air chamber and pressure sensor hose.
  • The water inlet valve is off.

Other problems that may well need the attendance of an engineer are the wiring to water inlet valve is faulty or there is an issue with the water valve resistance. There may also be a problem with the PCB.

DE:

This denotes that the door is open or is being detected as open.

This could mean there is a failure with the door locking mechanism, a common fault with many LG washing machines. You should check the door is closed properly first of all. If this isn’t the issue, check the door handle for damage or wear and the safety lock. Another problem could be with the door lock wiring or an issue with the control board.

UE:

This code appears when there is an imbalance in the load. An uneven load can stop the spin cycle working properly – while the machine tries to rectify this, it’s not always possible.

On non-digital machines, this is denoted when lights 1 to 6 flash.

  • The solution is to reload the machine and start the spin cycle again.
  • There may be a problem with the balance of the machine if it is on an uneven floor.
  • Small loads often tend to cause UE errors rather than full ones.

SE:

This appears when there is a motor fault and can be an issue with the main PCB. An engineer will need to repair the problem. They’ll check the motor and motor tacho, all the connections and the main control module.

CE:

This happens when the motor or PCB short circuits. This might be a fault with a machine or it could be something to do with your home electrics. In the washing machine, it could mean a problem with the main control module or the main drive motor or stator.

LE:

This can either be a problem similar to DE above or it can be caused by having big loads of washing on the following cycles: perm press, delicates, hand wash, wool and silk.

  • Check you have closed the door properly.
  • Check for damage or wear on the door handle.

If the door safety lock isn’t working it will need to be replaced. This problem can occur because of faulty door lock wiring. It can also mean problems with the rotor assembly, the resistance for the hall sensor or could mean that there is an object trapped that is stopping the rotation of the drum.

FE:

This appears when the machine is overfilling, which can happen when you put too much washing in or use excess detergent. It can also mean that there is a problem with the pressure sensor and the machine is filling with too much water.

On non-digital displays this error is highlighted when the lights for synthetic, wool, blanket or pre- and main flash.

You may notice that the washing is foaming too much in which case the machine should be emptied and the cycle started again.

Your engineer may have to check that the air chamber and the pressure switch are working properly. There may also be an issue with the water level sensor or the wiring to both. There could be a problem with the main electronic controller.

TE:

This usually means there is either a problem with the water heater, the element or the thermistor.

If you have a non-digital display the lights for 95, 60, 40 and cold will flash.

The main area to check is the heating element and the thermistor or temperature sensor. There may be a problem with the continuity or resistance as well as the wiring and connections.

PE:

This is fairly rare and denotes a problem with the pressure sensor or pressure switch that monitors water level.

For non-digital machines the lights for fuzzy, heating and speedy or super, normal and hold flash.

This requires the water level sensor to be checked including the wiring and connections. There may be a problem with the main electronic controller.

PF:

This shows if there is a power failure which could mean the power cord isn’t connected properly or that there is a problem with the wiring or connections between the mains radio interface filter and control module. There could also be a problem with the PCB or main control card that power the LED. It can also happen if you have a power cut during a wash.

SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINE ERROR CODES EXPLAINED

Samsung washing machines have several digital error codes most of which are aimed at informing engineers what the problem is. Here are the most common:

1E:

This means there is a problem with the water level sensor and it can be caused by a wide range of issues:

  • Damage to the pressure switch hose.
  • A block of the pressure sensor hose.
  • The hose has become twisted or folded over.
  • The hose has become separated.
  • There is a problem with the connection for the level sensor or the control board.

3E:

There is a problem or fault with the motor tacho which can also be caused by an issue with the PCB.

You will need to check both the motor and the motor tacho, as well as investigating all connections and potential blocks to the motor. There may also be an issue with the main control module.

3E1:

If you have put too much washing in the drum, you may see this error which means the motor has been overloaded. If this is the case you need to reduce the load. It can also be caused by a disconnection from the motor hall sensor or a fault with the main control board.

3E2:

This means there is a motor driving error and is potentially catastrophic which will involve replacing the main control module.

3E3:

There is a problem with understanding the signals the motor is getting from the main board. It could be a problem with the motor hall sensor or the connections between this and the main control board.

3E4:

Similar to 3E3 but could be down to the PCB housing terminal, a faulty motor or a problem with the main control module.

4E:

This means the water has not filled in the machine in a timely fashion.

You should check the water supply, first of all. If this is okay it could be the air chamber and pressure sensor hose. Other issues could be with the water inlet valve, faulty wiring or connections. There could be a problem with the main control PCB.

4E1:

This is a problem with the high temperature of the water that is coming into the machine and could mean it hasn’t been connected properly.

You will need to check the connection and inlet hoses and make sure the incoming water temperature is below 70˚C.

4E2:

Another temperature warning – this time it means that the incoming temperature for woollens or delicates is over 50˚C.

5E:

The washing machine isn’t draining its water and this could be due to a number of reasons.

  • The pump filter or drain hose might be obstructed.
  • The hose might be kinked.
  • There may be an issue with the air chamber and pressure sensor hose.
  • Other issues could be the drain pump and rotor, including the connections.

9E1:

There is a problem with the mains power supply which means you’ll need to check the voltage. It can often occur is the machine is on an extension lead or there is a problem with your home electrics.

9E2:

Another error code for the mains voltage which has the same solution as 9E1.

PF:

An error that shows there has been a power cut or power failure. If the power is back on you can restart the cycle.

UC:

There is a problem with the electricity supply with a too low voltage. This requires you to check your electricity supply.

AE:

This is a communication error and means there is a problem with the two control modules either in the connections or the plugs.

BE1:

There is a problem with the switch on button. This can happen if you hold the power button down for too long or there is a problem with the control panel.

BE2:

The same problem as BE1 but for any other button on the display.

BE3:

There is a short on the main relay which means you might have to repair the terminal or replace the control board.

CE:

The temperature in the washing machine has been detected as abnormal. The best thing to do is drain and reset and see if it happens again. If it does, it could be down to the thermistor or the heating element.

DE:

There’s a problem with the door to the washing machine. Check first to see if it’s closed properly or whether there’s damage to the door handle. Another issue may be the door lock wiring or the mechanism.

DE1:

Another door lock error but which could also be due to the wiring and a problem with the main control board.

DE2:

An unusual one this, it means your kids have been playing too much with the power button switching it on and off.

FE:

This is a problem for washer dryers and is a fan error. It can be due to a problem with the fan motor belt, the wiring on the dry start capacitor or the mechanical operation of the motor.

HE:

Another error concerning overheating of the water. You need to check the water heating element, check the heater for continuity and the thermistor or temperature sensor including resistance. There may also be a problem with the wiring and connections.

HE3:

If your machine has a steam function this error means there’s a problem with the generator.

LE:

Your machine has detected a water leak. This can be caused by a variety of issues such as hoses being dislodged, over foaming because of the wrong detergent and problems with the drain pump filter.

OE:

This error means there has been an overfill which can occur with big loads or putting the wrong detergent in. It can also be a problem with the drain hose or the pressure sensor which is falsely saying there is an overfill. There may be an issue with the main electronic controller.

TE1:

There’s a problem with the heating sensor, usually the connections on the thermistor. There may also be an issue with the wiring to the water heating element.

TE2:

There is a problem with the sensor on the fan duct which could be an issue with the wiring on the thermistor.

TE3:

Another duct heating sensor error as above.

UE:

There is an imbalanced load which may require you to reload and start again. It can also be because your washing machine isn’t sitting on a level floor and has to be adjsuted.

Sud:

Too much foam has been detected and needs to be cleared. This happens when you put in the wrong detergent or use too much.

WASHING MACHINE IS VERY NOISY

Each and every machine is noisy – even ones that profess to be quiet still emit noise when running through a washing programme. Some points of a washing cycle are louder than others, for instance a machine will make more noise when it is spinning than it will at other times. Over time you get to know your own washer and noise levels so you can usually detect an abnormal noise easily. If the laundry machine is very noisy then it can be a sign of a bigger problem and it shouldn’t be ignored.

More often than not a washer that is very noisy occurs during the spin cycle and one of the most frequent reasons for a noisy washer is the bearing on the drum. If you spin the drum when the machine is empty by hand and you hear a noise then that is the likely reason. A washer-dryer can be very noisy at other times during the cycle but generally it is when spinning.

Replacing the drum bearing is a big job and should only really be tackled by a professional. If they have gone then any time that the drum rotates you will hear this noise. If you identify that as the cause then don’t use the machine until it is fixed as you could well do more harm than good.

When a washer is very noisy then it could be down to a loose object in the drum. Check the drum thoroughly after a wash to check and see if there are any items like a coin that have come out of the washing during the cycle. This might be the culprit and to avoid it happening again make sure you check washing prior to loading in the machine. It’s possible you might see what is making a washer very noisy through the door glass during the cycle. You could cancel the programme to retrieve the item or wait for it to complete. If this item is missing once the drum is opened and isn’t in the washing itself then checking the filter at the front of the machine is a good idea.

Protect your drum bearings by not overloading your appliance as one too many heavy loads could be enough to break the bearings and cause problems with your washer being very noisy.

WASHING MACHINE BOUNCES AROUND

Most people expect their machine to move about and make noises whilst running through a washing programme. However, sometimes a washing machine bounces around to the point of causing concern that something could be wrong. Of course it is normal for a machine to make some movement, particularly when spinning but if a machine is bouncing around too much it is probable that there is a fault of some kind. Identifying a machine that is bouncing around too much early could be crucial in preserving the rest of the machine and its parts.

A common cause of a washer bouncing around is overloading the machine. A washer relies on balance and overloading the machine could easily cause it to be unbalanced and therefore not perform properly. A machine that is not balanced is likely not to spin properly and therefore the machine will be underperforming considerably. Using the washer according to the manufacturers guidance is advisable, especially when loading a machine correctly. Balance may not seem like an issue that is caused easily but it can certainly easily happen if a washer is overloaded frequently. An overloaded and unbalanced machine could ultimately result in the machine not spinning at all.

Many washers have an inbuilt sensor that can detect an overloaded or imbalance. As a consequence of this a machine will either not spin or abort a programme. Often this is mistaken for a fault but actually it is a preventative measure to stop the machine bouncing around or causing further damage to the appliance. In order to achieve a long life out, it is recommended to care for the machine and ensure it is treated in accordance to guidelines.

Like any fault with a washer calling out someone to repair a machine is always an option. A washer that bounces around might not seem like a significant problem or one that happens every time you run the machine but it is worth investigation as it could prevent other problems occurring. We are repair specialists that could remedy a machine that is bouncing around.

We are professional and fully trained engineers and we come equipped with the right tools for the job as well as great customer service. We are reliable and we will always inform you of the cost of repairs before commencing work on your appliance. In many instances we’re able to offer advice that will hopefully stop the problem happening again.

WASHING MACHINE IS STOPPING MID CYCLE

A common cause of when a washing machine is stopping mid cycle is a power failure. Check other appliances and lights to see if they have also stopped working and then either wait for the power to return or check the mains fuse box for a tripped switch. If this doesn’t bring about a reason for why the appliance is stopping mid cycle then check the plug and socket. Check the fuse and try the plug in a different power source to eliminate a problem with the plug socket.

Other causes of a washer stopping mid cycle could be due to the cycle being paused – check the display and make sure the pause button hasn’t been pressed accidentally or inadvertently – perhaps by a small child. If it is paused then just press the button again and the programme should re-start.

With a modern machine if it stops mid cycle then there is likely to be an error code on the digital display. Using the error code you should be able to identify the cause by referring to the user manual. If there is a simple fix then the manual will give some guidance on what to do. Failing that a more serious fault or problem may need to be dealt with by an appliance repair person.

If a machine is stopping during the rinse then check there isn’t a problem with the cold water supply. Take note if the machine fills with water or not or if it is not draining the water away. Both these things will be useful to tell the repair engineer.

When looking for a reliable engineer then it is a good idea to make a note of the fault code just in case it doesn’t appear the moment that the technician attends! Describing the fault as well as the approximate time in the programme that the washing machines is stopping. Giving accurate details of what is happening will all help the repair company identify the problem and could save time in the long run.

At Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  we take the time to understand the fault that has been happening with the washer. Typically when a washer is stopping we will ask questions to determine what the best course of action is. We are appliance repair experts with experience in all makes and types of domestic appliances. We will keep you informed every step of the way about your repair.

WASHING MACHINE DOOR WON’T OPEN

With most modern washing machines there is a secure door release that means when the washer is in use the door cannot be opened. This means that whilst the programme is running the washing machine door won’t open. This feature is pretty standard on all washing machines and can be particularly useful if you have small children who might take an interest in the appliance, preventing a disaster if the door were to be opened whilst full of water! Most of the time the washing machine door won’t open whilst the washing is mid cycle and for a few minutes after the washing machine has finished. When the door is released you might hear a small click and the padlock symbol on the digital display will disappear. This means the door can be opened. For the duration of a washing cycle or any programme on the machine the door will remain locked and the symbol displayed. Even if you turn the power off and then turn it back some machines still won’t release the door.

It might be frustrating to find the machine door locked, especially if you forget to place an item in with your load, however it is usually possible to cancel a programme to add something in if you realise soon after the door lock mechanism kicks in. If however, the washer door won’t open after the cycle is complete and there is no other reason for it to not open then you might find yourself with the need for a repair person to fix the door.

The first thing to remember is to not force the door open as this might cost more money to fix in the long run. Check for water that is still in the machine as this could be preventing the door from opening. If there is still water present then the machine will not open in order to protect from water spilling everywhere. If you can drain the water then the door release should activate.

If the programme has finished completely and your washer door locked and you’re sure there is no water inside then turn the machine off at the plug. Leave the machine for a few minutes and when you turn the power back on you should find that the door releases on most occasions.

If you still can’t find a reason for the door not to open especially after consulting the user manual then contact a repair company like Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  to come and see if they can find the problem. We are experts at dealing with all kinds of repairs and will help you if you find your washer door locked.

WASHING MACHINE STARTED TO SMELL

Everyone knows we wash our clothes in order to keep them clean and fresh. People don’t tend to think too much about what goes into their washing machine, assuming that it will deal with dirt and grime and take it away indefinitely. However, even the most robust appliance needs attention in order to keep it performing at its best. If your washer started to smell then it is likely that it requires a good clean out to ensure that it is functioning properly. When washing at 40 °C which most people do then dirt and bacteria build up quickly. Whilst this is all much better for the environment giving a washer that’s started to smell a service wash at a high temperature on a regular basis should keep nasty odours from developing.

Checking your detergent drawer is also something that should be done regularly as this is the place where build up can occur the most. A smell can begin in the drawer and as time goes on it might spread to the rest of the machine and ultimately it could begin to impact on your clothing. To clean your detergent drawer you can remove it completely from the washer and soak in hot water to lift off the detergent and softener residue.

If you wash heavily soiled clothing such as work wear or children’s reusable nappies then carrying out a hot wash every now and again should help keep your machine from smelling. Some modern machines even have a service wash programme and the recommendations on the frequency are likely to be in your user manual. If you have never done a service wash then it might take a few attempts to eradicate the smell completely. After that doing this regularly should keep smells at bay.

When cleaning your machine check the door seal too as dirt and grime can stay there and might be causing the unpleasant aroma. It is also worth checking the standpipe and outside drain to check that is not the reason your washing machine started to smell.

If in any doubt and you think there is another reason your washer started to smell then calling out an engineer to give you a second opinion might be worthwhile. A washing machine repair company like Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  would be able to give you advice on problems that could cause a smelly machine. We are professional appliance repair technicians and we would be happy to help with problems like a smelly washing machine. We offer a prompt and reliable service and will talk you through the repair details and let you know costs in advance.

WASHING MACHINE IS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT

When it comes to a leaky appliance the thing to try and determine is where it is leaking from. Depending on the size of the leak it might be more or less obvious to spot if your machine is leaking from the front. There are a few areas on the front of a washer that it could leak from.

The detergent drawer is one place a laundry machine could leak from the front. If a drawer is blocked or clogged up with detergent residue and general grime then cleaning the drawer thoroughly should clear the leak altogether. Remove the drawer and soak in warm water to get rid of any tough and dried on residue. Repeat this exercise regularly to prevent the problem reoccurring. The other cause of leaking from the detergent drawer is due to high pressure of water coming into the drawer from the machine. If this occurs then turning down the water pressure from the mains could resolve it.

The door seal can leak from the front causing water to spill from the door and likely end up on the floor. To try and stop this happening then checking the door seal for kinks, tears or damage is a good idea. If you find any then replacing the door seal is probably necessary – however you might find that the leak was caused by a trapped item of clothing or other object. Removing that could then stop the washer leaking.

A washer can also leak from the filter – seals can get damaged around the filter and this might cause a leak. Checking this area could eliminate the leak or flag up any seals that might need replacing.

If you find your washer is leaking then Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  could help you find the cause. If you have dismissed the simple causes of leakage to find something more sinister then we would be delighted to help you with your appliance repair. WASHING MACHINE IS LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM

A machine can leak heavily or just a few drips. Whatever the pace of the leak, a laundry machine that is leaking from the bottom or anywhere else should be checked over. Even if a washer starts with a slow leak it could easily progress to something more serious which could in turn bring you more problems.

If you notice water gathering under your machine when it is not in use then checking the hose at the rear of the machine is recommended. It could be something simple like a seal that is worn out in the hose or a loose valve – either way carefully investigating the machine at the back should identify whether that is the reason your washer is leaking. A pool of water gathered in front of the machine when it isn’t being used isn’t uncommon and could generally be resolved by tightening up the connections at the back. It could also be worth checking the water pump as a small drip or leak could emit from there too.

A washer may also leak if it is in use. Perhaps the leak is actually occuring all the time but you only notice after the machine is working. Checking the door seal and the filter for any blockages might rule out reasons that a machine is leaking. It’s possible that a machine is worse when it is on a particular washing cycle – for instance a heavy load may cause more leakage as the spin could cause more water to seep out. A longer washing cycle or one that uses more water might also be particular programmes where you notice a leak is present.

A washer that is leaking might also only occur when the washer is in rinse mode. Again checking the machine behind and the hose connections might eliminate any obvious problems that could cause water to leak out.

If the problem persists and there is no obvious cause then it is wise to call out an engineer. No-one wants to experience a big flood so getting on top of the problem quickly is probably a better option for most people. We are a domestic appliance repair company that will tackle most appliances and makes. We are courteous and professional and will keep you informed throughout our service.

WASHING MACHINE IS NOT HEATING THE WATER

Typically you might expect to feel the warmth of a hot wash through the glass door of a machine but this isn’t generally the case with modern appliances. It could be a while before you really notice that there’s a problem with your machine’s water temperature and it could even manifest itself just through clothes that aren’t as clean as you’d expect. Providing your washing is coming out clean then there probably isn’t a problem with your washer.

If you have diagnosed that the washer doesnt appear to be heating the water up then finding out the cause is a priority. With a modern appliance it should flag up with an error code on the digital display that will tell you that the water isn’t reaching the desired or requested temperature. Referring to your user manual will help you decide what all the error codes mean. It is quite common to wash at relatively low temperatures these days due to environmental concerns so it may only be on certain programmes that you notice that the washer that doesnt appear to be heating the water up.

Following a diagnosis of a washer that doesnt appear to be heating the water up it could be due to a faulty heating element which can be checking by a continuity meter. The problem could also be accompanied by other faults like the water not draining or the motor not running properly. With most problems relating to the inner workings of the washer it is best to contact a repair company like Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  who will be able to carry out a thorough inspection of the appliance and determine properly whether the machine is not heating the water.

When you do notice or when there is an error code present on your appliance then it is the best course of action to call out a professional. A reliable expert in domestic appliance repairs like Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  will be able to replace a broken heating element or fix any other problem with a washer.

When contacting Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  it is a good idea to make a note of when the problem began happening and what you have done already to try and identify or remedy the problem. We will happily help any customer with a problematic appliance.

WASHING MACHINE IS NOT DRAINING THE WATER

If a washing machine is not draining the water there is a handful of issues it could be. If a machine has stopped working completely and is full of water then it could be something as simple as a power failure. Waiting for the power to come back on or turning it back on if a switch has tripped should be enough to get the machine going again. Once back up and running a washer should continue the programme and ultimately start draining the water again.

If this doesn’t work then it likely to be a blockage somewhere in the water drainage pipe or a failure of the water pump. Check for a blockage first at the plumbing under the sink as this will save you moving the washer around to check at the back. It’s possible there is a blockage in the end of the drainage pipe so checking the end first is a good idea. It is also worth trying to find out if the pump is working or trying to work to try to confirm if that is the reason the washer is not draining the water.

If necessary you can drain the washer manually either at the front via the pump filter or via the drain hose at the rear. It might be possible to clear the blockage to the water pump if you find a sock or other small item of clothing in the filter preventing water from draining. Of course an easy solution to check for certain why a washer is not draining the water is to call an engineer. We are professionals that could help anyone with a machine that is not draining the water.

We are experts in domestic appliance repair of all makes and models. We would be happy to assist with any domestic appliance problem but in particular we could help locate a blockage or issue that is causing a washer to not drain water. As professionals we have high standards of customer service and would happily give you a quote for the work in advance and talk through exactly what needs to happen to fix a machine that isn’t draining. We can also give advice on how to drain the machine yourself or carry this out as part of the overall repair.

A way to prevent a blockage would be to avoid placing very small items in the appliance or using a washing net to keep small items together. There are plenty of nooks and crannies that small socks could disappear into and over time cause problems with the running of the appliance.

WASHING MACHINE IS DAMAGING MY CLOTHES

Imagine you put your favourite (and most expensive) outfit in your washing machine only to discover at the end of the washing cycle that it was torn or covered in large black stains that weren’t there when it went in. Granted you’d be horrified but there could be an explanation as to why your appliance is damaging clothes. Anyone with a large family or extensive wardrobe knows it’s not really practical to not use a laundry machine, so you’ll want to resolve a washer that is damaging clothes as soon as possible.

The majority of instances when a washer is damaging your clothes it could be down to improper use of the appliance. Overloading is a big cause of problems – having a machine that is too full is bound to cause problems with clothes simply being too tightly packed and rubbing in places they wouldn’t rub if the machine was at a recommended capacity. Washing different kinds of fabrics together in one load is another common cause of damage to clothing. Delicate fabrics shouldn’t be washed together with non delicates especially as zips, chunky buttons or other embellishments to clothes could easily snag or tear clothing. Be sure to separate out clothing that could be easily damaged in this way. Similarly for clothing that is heavily soiled keep that separate too so the stains don’t contaminate clothing that is almost stain free. Protect ultra delicate and important items by placing in a pillow case or opt for a hand wash instead.

Check your washer drum regularly for any lifted parts, dints or holes – also check the drum paddle as any breaks or damage to this could cause damage to clothing. Above all else check your washing prior to loading your appliance. Anything left in pockets like coins or sharp objects could break free and cause tears or holes to other items, particularly during a long washing cycle. It is also better to turn items with zips or buttons inside out before washing so that these items aren’t immediately coming into contact with other clothing during washing.

If you think you have a big problem in the machine itself causing damage to clothing then contacting a professional appliance repair company might be the best course of action. An expert in domestic appliance repair will be much better qualified to identify any problems caused by a washer damaging clothing. Avoid using the machine until they are able to come and view the machine – with Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  we aim to attend to our customers quickly and we are confident that we can help with most problems.

WASHING MACHINE IS NOT CLEANING CLOTHES PROPERLY

There can be nothing more frustrating that getting your clothes out of the washing machine to find them still dirty. Often this is due to inadequate preparation before they went in the washer but sometimes it can be cause by the appliance not cleaning clothes properly.

The best way to tell if it is the appliance or not is to try and use a different machine and see if it makes a difference. Try to remember when the problem began and make a note of whether it is getting better or worse as time goes on. A washer that is not working correctly might be an intermittent problem so making a mental note of what is going on is a good idea.

Detergent drawer

If after you’ve eliminated other causes such as too little detergent or a permanent stain your appliance is still not cleaning clothes properly then it could be time to take a different approach. Similarly your appliance could be simply too dirty to make the clothes clean! Just like the detergent drawer any washer can become too clogged up inside the various parts that it stops working at its best. This can cause a smelly drum and won’t leave clothes clean and fresh. Using a washer cleaner product and following the instructions could get your machine back to normal. In general using less detergent in a wash could prevent build up as well as using a laundry machine cleaner more regularly.

Overloading

Using your appliance incorrectly is another major factor in it underperforming. A machine that is not cleaning clothes properly is a surefire sign that a machine is overloaded, washing things that are inappropriate for the machine eg trainers/shoes or using the wrong programme for the machine contents. A thorough read of your manual will educate you in the proper use and the various different programmes to suit different fabrics or loads.

If you are still having problems with the washer then it is probably worth calling out a reliable engineer like Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services . Our professional staff will come out and evaluate what is happening with your appliance and do various checks to see if the problem can be resolved.

Useful Tips
The detergent drawer of the appliance can become clogged up with residue and general grime that causes the connection between the drawer and the appliance to be blocked.

If detergent isn’t reaching the machine then it could definitely be a major factor of not cleaning clothes properly and therefore leave stains and smells on the clothing. Every so often you should remove the detergent drawer and give it a good clear out.

WASHING MACHINE IS NOT STARTING

A machine that is not starting could be a number a faults ranging from something simple to something more serious. The most obvious one to rule out is the machine not starting due to a lack of power. Checking that there hasn’t been a power failure and checking the plug in a different socket are all ways to check that it isn’t something power related.

The next simple test is to check the fuse in the plug of the washer that is not starting – checking the fuse with a continuity test meter or swapping with one you know to work elsewhere might just solve the problem. There could be be a blown fuse or the appliance could have tripped the electrics. Always ensure that you are completely safe from an electric shock prior to checking anything electrical by turning off the mains power or circuit. If the washer has caused the electrics to trip then it could mean a bigger problem with the appliance so it is wise to call in a professional.

If a washer does not start it is worth trying a couple of different settings to try to establish the extent of the problem. For instance the washer might not work on a wash programme but it could still work on a spin option. If this happens then the problem might be down to taking water into the machine.

Checking the washer door is another simple check as more often than not the door might not be closed fully which means the washer won’t start up. There are other cause of a washer not starting which would most definitely require an engineer. Things like a motor or heater problem will all need a professional appliance repairer to attend and diagnose.

We are experts in domestic appliance repair and pride ourselves on our professional service and knowledge of all makes and models. If you are in any doubt over why your washer does not start then you should call on a professional appliance repair company to make sure everything is safe before using the machine again.

Having a broken appliance is a big inconvenience but we try to accommodate our clients around their busy schedule so the chances are we can come out quickly and even the same day if we can. We would be delighted to help anyone with a washer that is not starting and help you resolve the problem quickly and efficiently.

WASHING MACHINE HAS STOPPED FILLING WITH WATER

When a washing machine is not filling with water it is usually an indication of a problem with the water supply. It is therefore a good idea to check first that the mains supply is still running. If after checking that the main supply is in tact the machine is still not filling with water then you can make a few simple checks with the machine. Check also that the machine is functioning otherwise this could indicate a complete power failure.

If power and water main supplies are running properly then start by listening out for a humming noise when the appliance tries to take on water. The humming indicates that it is trying to take water in and that a kink or blockage could be preventing it. Checking the water valves and the filters that sit behind the valves to see if there is anything visible meaning the washer is not filling with water is advisable. Also check that the pipes leading from the water tap to the washer aren’t twisted or kinked as this too is a common problem that can prevent the water running back into the machine.

Most modern machines come with an error code if the machine isn’t performing properly so it is also a good idea to check the display panel to see if there is any code displayed that could be checked again the user manual. If anything untoward is on the display then it is probably wise to call in an expert to see if they can diagnose the problem further. Having someone check over the appliance is recommended for anything that the measures above don’t remedy. Whilst the washer not filling with water might seem like it would have a fairly obvious cause this is sometimes not the case and a professional might be needed.

When calling up a professional to deal with a washer, that is not filling up with water, be sure to have the make and model number to hand. Also be prepared to give a brief description of the problem and details of when it began happening and things you have tried to resolve it. Imperial Appliances Repair Nairobi Services  deal with all kinds of domestic appliance repairs and are able to provide an engineer to investigate when a washer is not filling with water. We offer a professional and reliable domestic appliance repair service and we will keep you informed of progress every step of the way.

A washer that is not filling up with water can be a major inconvenience but it could be quicker to hire a professional engineer than to attempt a fix yourself.
